Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Faith is taking the first step, even if you can’t see the whole staircase.
I do not know about you. I like to cover all the bases and make sure I am 100% sure before I take a step forward.
Last year I was offered a project using a tool I had never used before. In fact, it was based on a no-code tool. I have never done anything with no-code. I remember I was given a week. I got it working in an afternoon.
Towards the end of last year, I was offered to do something with another tool, this time a low-code tool. Again, I had never done anything with that tool. I had never done anything with low code either. I did it in two days.
I try to tell myself that these are two simple jobs. I tell myself that when the project gets complicated, I will hit speed bumps. I will hit a wall.
I am now being offered the opportunity to do two different systems – two complete systems from the ground up. I have never done a complete system before. The last time I got the PO, designed, coded, tested, implemented a complete system was about twenty years ago.
Jesse (my son) encouraged me to do it. A friend told me not to worry.
If Kathleen (my late wife) were still around, I think she would see through me. She would call out that I really did not want to do it. And she would tell me to do it.
God does not always reveal the entire plan to us. He also does not always give us all the preparation to make us feel comfortable. Often, he calls us and expects us to be obedient without hesitation. Do we trust him enough to obey him? Do we insist to know everything before we take the first step? Sometimes. not only we have to take the step of faith. Sometimes we need to take a leap of faith.
