Be Kind

Kindness, like honesty, is often overlooked or taken for granted. It is sometimes seen as being pretentious. Other times, it is seen as a sign of weakness. The world wants someone who is strong, powerful, and ruthless.

The Bible tells us kindness is a fruit of the spirit. It is not just a gift we give to others; it is also a blessing that boomerangs back to us.

“Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.” (Pro 11:17)

When we choose to be kind, we reflect the heart of God. His kindness towards us is unmeasurable. It is seen most clearly in the gift of his son, Jesus Christ. We are his children are called to imitate his love and compassion in our interactions with others. An act of kindness – be it a warm smile, an encouraging word, or a helping hand – points people to the goodness of God and testify of his transforming grace.

As mentioned earlier, kindness does not just impact those we serve. It changes us too. When we extend kindness to others, our hearts grow softer, our relationship deepens, and we experience the joy of living in alignment with God’s will. Kindness brings peace to our lives and helps us see others as God sees them – valuable and loved.

Let us commit to be kind. It may take some time. Look for opportunity to serve, uplift, and encourage. When we do that, we will reflect God’s character and share his love with a world in need of his hope and light.

Be kind. Yes, even to that person.
