Grow Up!

As the days go by, we grow physically. We grow taller. We grow – ahem – heavier. In some houses, we see the mark on the wall recording the height of the children every year.

“And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” (Lk 2:52)

We read about the holistic growth of Jesus – intellectually, physically, spiritually, and relationally. As a child of God, we too are called to grow in all areas of our lives, especially in spirit.

Do we know that sometimes we ONLY grow in stature? For some reasons, our emotional and spiritual growth could be stunted. So, we may grow to be 175 cm and 121 kg, but our emotions and spirit life remain a toddler.

Similarly, we may be faithful in the more outward, ritualistic, and ceremonial practices like attending church but at the same time, we struggle inside with unresolved emotions, unforgiveness, or fears. All these can block the deeper growth God desires for us. Spiritual maturity requires us to identify these obstacles and bring them before God for healing and restoration.

Take time to examine your heart. Are there wounds you have ignored, fears you have not confronted, or areas of pride you have allowed to linger? These may be hindering your ability to grow closer to God and reflect his love. Surrender them to God in prayer and seek his guidance to overcome them.

Remember that the Holy Spirit works within us to grow us into the likeness of Christ. As you seek to grow spiritually, invite God to transform every part of your being. With his help, you can continue to grow in wisdom, grace, and favour.
