You are What You Eat

It is Chinese New Year Eve! As we celebrate this season of joy, feasting, and family reunion, I want to share a reminder: “You are what you eat.”

I remember the time when I was in Form Four. My waistline grew three inches after the Chinese New Year break. My classmates did not believe me. When I was young, I could really eat. I was proud of having a sweet tooth. Kuih kapit, pineapple tarts, arrowhead chips, peanut cookies, and my favourite, kuih bangkit.

What we consume matters – not just physically, but spiritually. Just as overindulging in festive treats may leave us sluggish and unhealthy, feeding our minds with endless amusements and distractions can make our souls lazy and unfocused. Too much of the world’s “junk food” can stunt our emotional and spiritual growth. That leaves us unprepared to face life’s challenges with wisdom and grace.

Instead, let us feast on what nourishes us – the Word of God (which strengthens our faith) and fellowship with other believers (which refreshes our hearts.) Like a balanced meal, these practices sustain our spiritual health, helping us to grow in wisdom, love, and responsibility.

As we begin the new Lunar year, let us embrace the spiritual “diet” that leads to abundant life in Christ.

Hearts feast on God’s Word,
Spirit grows with faith and love,
New year, grace abounds.

真道为粮心灵饱,
活水泉源永不歇。
世间虚荣转瞬逝,
基督之爱无尽好。

Wishing you and your families a year of health, prosperity, and spiritual growth!

In his love and mine,
Loong
