I have been reading the Bible for years. In recent years, I have started to set annual book reading goals. Some books are fun to read. They are page turners that are intriguing and engaging. However, sometimes I need multiple attempts and days to complete a few pages. Those are the section of the book that I find hard to read.
We know the importance of reading the Bible consistently. We try to do it every day. We struggle. At times, we feel overwhelmed, distracted, or unsure where to start.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” 2 Tim 3:16 reminds us that the Bible is not just another book, it is God’s Word, filled with wisdom, hope, and encouragements for our daily lives. How then, can we make Bible reading a daily habit?
Firstly, we start small. Five to ten minutes a day is good. Read a short passage. Or a chapter. Do not be too ambitious in the beginning. Set a specific time, preferably the same time every day. This helps build consistency. Pick a Bible reading plan that fits you. Having a plan provides structure. Pray. Ask God to open our hearts and give us understanding. Journal. Jot down insights, questions, key verses. When you read back, you will be reminded of God’s grace and faithfulness.
Reading the Bible every day transforms our hearts and minds. If we want to be more like Jesus, we must read the Bible. Start today and observe how God’s Word changes your life!
