Wisdom vs Knowledge: Are You Living What You Know?

It is said, knowledge is power. Today, we can find out about anything in mere seconds. As Christians, we must ask ourselves, are we merely gathering knowledge, or are we growing in wisdom?

When we read / listen to the Bible in the morning, are we ticking off a checkbox or do we learn from what we read? Do we read the Bible to learn what God wants to teach us, or do we want to memorize Bible trivia so we can impress others?

The Bible tells us that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” (Pro 9:10). Wisdom is not just knowing facts; it is applying God’s truth in our lives. Many people can quote Bible verses, but are we living it? We know we should forgive, do we? We know we should love, do we? We know we should share the Gospel, do we? We know we can and should trust God, do we?

James 1:22 warns, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Do not deceive ourselves by thinking knowledge alone is enough. True wisdom leads to transformation, obedience, and a Christ-centred life.

Today, spend some time to reflect. Are you growing in wisdom, or just accumulating knowledge? Is your life marked by application of the Bible you read, or just information? Let us not settle for being mere hearers of the Word – let us be doers. In the end, wisdom is not about what we know, but how we live for God.
