No Such Thing as Monday Blues

The dreaded alarm blares. It’s Monday. Again. You drag yourself out of bed, already thinking what you want for lunch and counting down to Friday. You cannot wait for the pickle ball session on Saturday. The coffee is not working, the inbox is full, and the to-do list makes you want to laught and cry at the same time. Monday blues – they hit hard. But here’s the question: why do we dread the very start of a new work week?

For most, Monday means duty without joy. Work without meaning. But for Christians, that’s not the script we are given.

Colossians 3:23 flips the whole mindset: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters”

That means your work – emails, spreadsheets, cleaning, meetings, presentations, diagnosing your patient, or teaching your students – is not just a paycheck. It is worship. It’s holy ground. Whether you’re in an office, a classroom, a job site, a consultation room, or at home, you’re serving Christ. And that changes everything.

There’s no room for “blues” when the King of Heaven is your real boss. Monday isn’t the start of drudgery; it’s the start of another chance to honour God with excellence, purpose, and joy.

So go ahead. Brew the coffee, check the inbox. Then roll up your sleeves and do it for him.

Monday isn’t a curse. It’s a calling.

And this is coming from someone who does not hold a job.
