This morning, as I cooked for Ben, I listened to The Briefing podcast. Albert Mohler answered a tough question about Martin Luther King Jr. and an antisemitic book he had written. He didn’t excuse it. Instead, he acknowledged both the truth of the harm and the significance of MLK’s impact on civil rights.
Then he pointed to Scripture – specifically Hebrews. The Bible lists many flawed people as heroes of the faith. It doesn’t whitewash their failures. David was an adulterer. Moses had a temper. Peter denied Christ. Yet God still used them.
A moment later, my sister sent me news that Hulk Hogan had passed away. I looked it up. Confirmed. Born Terry Bollea, he rose to stardom in the ’80s when Vince McMahon Jr. saw something in him. Hulk Hogan became more than a wrestler – he became a symbol. That fame helped transform wrestling from a niche regional show into a global spectacle.
Two very different men. Different legacies. Both remembered.
It reminded me: influence doesn’t require perfection. And legacies are complicated – but they still matter.
God works through the broken. His grace fills the gaps. If he used them, he could use us too.
Let us press on – with grace for others, and grace for ourselves.
