“Love is patient.” (1 Cor 13:4)
We often read “love is patient” like it is a gentle, noble thing. But in real life, patience does not always feel peaceful. Sometimes it feels like waiting in silence – waiting for change, for healing, for someone to understand, for a prayer to be answered.
Patience means staying when you feel like walking away. It means holding your tongue when your heart wants to shout. It means trusting God’s timing when yours is running out.
I have waited – for relationships to mend, for grief to ease, for my words to reach someone’s heart. And in those moments, I’ve learned something deeper:
Love is not just about doing something. Sometimes it is about not giving up. It is about being patient.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you …” (2 Peter 3:9)
If God is patient with us – in our wandering, our delays, our doubts – how much more should we reflect that love by learning to wait well? Do really want to be like Jesus?
Love is not pushy. It does not rush.
Love stays. Love trusts. Love waits.
Even when the silence lingers.
