It is the friend who rolls their eyes when you mention church. It’s the colleague who labels you judgmental for holding to biblical truth. It is the family who shut you out because of your faith. And for some believers around the world, it is not just rejection but prison, violence, or death.
When we follow Jesus, we face opposition and persecution.
Jesus told us this would happen: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” (John 15:18). Hatred toward him did not end at the cross – it continues wherever his name is lifted up, because his message cuts against pride, power, and sin.
So, let us be honest. If we are serious about following him, we will not always be applauded. Sometimes we will be mocked. Sometimes we will be pushed aside. Sometimes we will be hated. Sometimes, assassinated.
But here is the question: How will we respond? Will we grow bitter? Will we shrink back? Or will we keep standing firm, keep loving, and keep holding to the truth that sets people free?
This series, Why They Hate My Jesus, is not about complaining or picking fights. It is about preparing our hearts. It is about remembering that rejection is part of discipleship. It is about finding courage to persevere, strength to endure, and boldness to love when it would be easier to walk away.
Ask yourself:
- Am I ready to be different because of Christ?
- Am I willing to endure the world’s hate to stay faithful to him?
- Am I determined to love anyway no matter the cost?
Because the hate is real but so is the victory. And his love – the same love that turned the cross into resurrection, the same love that turned the instrument of death into a symbol of hope – always has the final word.
Join me in the days to come. I invite you to say this prayer.
Lord Jesus,
You were despised and rejected so that I might be forgiven and free.
Give me courage when I face opposition.
Give me strength when I feel weak.
Give me love when I am tempted to hate.
Teach me not to shrink back, but to stand firm in your truth.
Teach me not to grow bitter, but to forgive as you forgave.
Make my life a witness of your unshakable love.
And when the world pushes against me, remind me
You are worth it. You are with me. You have already overcome.
