The Unstoppable Sower – Persistence in the Promise

In this Handling Rejection as a Christian series, we’ve identified the “Blame Game,” looked behind the closed doors of the heart, and learned to “shake the dust” from our sandals. Now, the final question remains: How do we keep going? How do we prevent our hearts from becoming as hardened as the soil we sometimes encounter? The secret to becoming an unstoppable sower is shifting your focus from the rejection you see to the Promise you know.

Thicker Skin, Softer Heart

You need to be resilient. You need to build “emotional callouses” without losing your empathy.

Realize that every “no” is simply a “not yet” or a “not with me.”

If you let rejection make you cynical, you stop being a sower and start being a critic. An unstoppable sower keeps their heart soft because they know the next field might be the one that is ripe for harvest.

The Multi-Sower Reality

You might be the third person to share the Gospel with a friend, or you might be the tenth.

You are part of a global team. If someone rejects your testimony today, you have still “disturbed the soil.” You have planted a seed that the next person might water.

You may never see the harvest of the seeds you plant, but that doesn’t mean the harvest isn’t coming.

Focus on the “One”

It is easy to get overwhelmed by the crowd that walks away. But in the Kingdom, we celebrate for the one. (See Lk 15:10)

For every five (or fifty) people who mock or ignore you, there is one who is quietly desperate for hope. If you stop sowing because of the five, you rob the “one” of their opportunities to hear the Truth.

Think about this. “Your obedience is the answer to someone else’s secret prayer.”

Final Call to Action: Stay in the Field

As Christians, we must not settle for second-hand accounts of God’s love; we must experience it and then share it. Don’t let the fear of rejection keep you on the sidelines. Dust off your sandals, grab a fresh handful of seeds, and head back out. The Master of the Harvest is with you.

What you can do: This week, share your testimony or a word of encouragement with one person, regardless of how you think they will react. Focus entirely on your obedience and leave the outcome at the feet of Jesus.
