Psalm 31 is David’s desperate cry for deliverance and refuge. In the midst of all all his troubles, David chose to trust God. He remembered God’s faithfulness. He knew God can give him refuge and protection.
Cry for Deleverance. David started by praying to God for deliverance from his enemies and to seek refuge in God’s righteousness and love. He trusted God.
Acknowledge God’s Sovereignty. David affirmed his trust in God’s sovereignty. Despite all the troubles around him, David found security in God. God is in charge. Our God reigns! David is confidence that God will get him out of his troubles.
Declaration of Trust in Praise. David concluded Psalm 31 with his declaration of trust in God’s love for protection and provision. This trust is reflected in Psalm 23.
Psalm 31 gives us a good lesson – that we can find refuge in God’s faithfulness, even in the face of adversity. We can trust (not just believe) in his sovereignty, we can turn to him in prayer, and cry our hearts out, we can be confidence in his deliverance and rejoice in his goodness. In this way, we can expereince his unfailing love in every situation.
Do you have a comfort food that you count on? Do you have someone you can turn to whenever you have problems? Do you have friends who turn to you whenever they have problems? Jesus is someone we can ALWAYS turn to when we need deliverance from our troubles and enemies. Do you call upon the name of Jesus when you are in troubles?
