14/03/2024|1 Sam 27 – Moral Choices

Greetings. We see in 1 Sam 27 that David faced a complex situation. When he fled from Saul’s pursuit, he sought refuge with the Philistines, the sworn enemy of his kingdom. David’s decision raises questions about faith, obedience, and navigating hard choices.

Faith Does Not Guarantee an Easy Ride. David is a man known to be after God’s own heart. Why did he go to the Philistines? This decision seems contradicting his faith. When we become a Christian, there is no guarantee that everything will be easy. We still have challenges. We may still be presented with difficult options.

Seek God’s Guidance. We do not know whether David sought God’s counsel before he moved to the land of the Philistines because there was no mention about it. We must remember to seek God’s guidance especially when we face complex choices. Pray for wisdom, pray for discernment.

Stand Your Ground. David escaped from Saul. Achish, King of Gath received him. David did not wage war against Israelites. He was anointed to be the next king, He trusted God’s plan. He trusted God’s timing. A lesser man would have gotten angry with God. David did not.

Think of a time when you had to make a difficult choice that seemed to contradict your faith. How did you handle it? How can you cultivate a habit of seeking God’s guidance especially in the midst of a complex situation? How do you ensure you stick to your values even when it is hard?
