David was good friend with Jonathan. When Saul and Jonathan died, David found out Jonathan had a son, Mephibosheth. He was lame in both feet. David showed him great compassion because of Jonathan.
Seek and Seize Opportunities to Show Kindness. David actively searched for Mephibosheth. He did not wait for Mephibosheth to come to look for him. David’s kindness is extended even to one who is seemingly insignificant or forgotten.
Forgiveness and Reconciliation. David’s actions were beyond kindness, they also represent forgiveness. Saul sought David’s life. Not only did David not seek revenge, he sought to take care of Mephibosheth. Forgiveness has the power to transform life. It is important to seek reconciliation.
Unconditional Love. David’s actions were not based on merit, nor was it done in expectation of reciprocation. His actions reflect God’s own unconditional love.
When was the last time you showed kindness to someone in need? When was the last time your walked the extra mile for someone? Are you holding on to any grudges or unforgiveness that hinders reconciliation? How can you reflect God’s unconditional love in your interactions with others?
Compassion, love, and forgiveness combined to be powerful agents of change and reconciliations. How can you experience this transformation?
