09/05/2024|Psalm 101 – A Commitment to Integrity

In Psalm 101, we see King David’s commitment to live a life with integrity, reflecting God’s values, both in public and in private.

Living in Integrity. We see David desires to “conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart”. That is his conviction. His integrity extends beyond outward actions. It permeates the inner being. This reminds us to strive for purity of heart and the consistency in our values.

Shun Wickedness. David also talked about actively wicked things. We are encouraged to be discerning about the influences we allow into our lives. Choosing to align to God’s side must be a deliberate act. David also spoke against slander and arrogance. Let’s cultivate humility. Let’s avoid taking part in gossiping. Treat everyone with respect and dignity, even those who are “wrong in the internet.” LOL.

Seeking God’s Presence. Psalm 101 concludes by talking about the house of God and the city of God. Both point to the presence of God. David desires to be in the presence of God. This should encourage us to seek God’s guidance and to strive to create environments that reflect his character.

In what ways do you strive for integrity in your life and your interactions with others? Are there areas where you might have allowed “wicked things” to slip in, and thereby having an influence on your thoughts and speech and actions? How can you be more mindful of what you say and avoid engaging in gossip or other non-edifying conversations? What can you do to cultivate humility in your life?
