You have many sons, but this is the one you trust with the future of the throne. And this is the son who betrays you in public and steals the hearts of your loyal subjects. This is the heart-rending reality King David faces in 2 Sam 15. As Absalom’s rebellion unfolds, we may resonate with David’s feelings of betrayal, despair, and anger. In the storm, we see in 2 Sam 15 a glimpse of hope. Let’s delve in to this passage and find out how to walk through the darkest valley and still find peace and strength in the presence of God.
In 2 Samuel 15, Absalom rebels against King David by undermining his authority and winning people’s hearts with promises of better justice. Declaring himself king in Hebron, Absalom gains significant support, including some of David’s men. David flees with loyal followers and sends back Hushai as a spy. Despite his pain, David avoids direct confrontation to prevent bloodshed, choosing instead to trust God, remain humble, and seek divine guidance.
Seek God’s Guidance. When we face betrayal, turn to God in prayer and seek his wisdom. Do not rely on our own understanding. Do not react on impulse. Submit our situation to God.
Stay Humble. We can learn from David. He did not assemble his team of avengers. He trusted God. He knew God would work things out in his timing and purpose.
Stay Faithful. Even when facing great adversity, David remained faithful to God’s commands. He continued to live a life that honoured God. Our response to betrayal can be a powerful testimony of our faith.

Father in Heaven, help me to trust in your sovereign plan in times of betrayal and adversity. Grant me the wisdom to seek your guidance and strength. Help me to remain humble and faithful. May my words and deeds reflect your love and grace. May I find comfort in knowing that you are always with me. Guide me, Father, protect me, and help me to always walk in your ways, no matter the situations I am in. In the name of Jesus, amen.
