Do you meet people? I am sure you do. You meet your family, your friends, your co-workers, your business associates, your church friends, your neighbours, your classmates, your relatives, and many others. Do you remember you have a job to do? You are to share with them the Good News.
It is said the most powerful testimonies are those that are personal. You can tell the story about someone climbing Mount Everest while negotiating world peace. That is somebody’s story. However, when you tell your own story, it’s more impactful. You lived it. You are telling the story. You are not afraid to appear vulnerable because you know where you get your strength from. You are not afraid to face the past. There is no condemnation, no shame, no fear, and there is nothing to prove.
Instead, you just share how things went bad, the turning point, and how things became good again. It sound simply but that is what God does when we have an encounter with him. A testimony should tell how it was, what happened, and how it is after that.
I know someone who said she was still the same good old person that she was after she became a Christian. In my mind, I was thinking, are you saying Christ died in vain for you because you did not need him to die for you? Or are you saying God could not transform your life?
I had my fair share of bad choices which lead to bad consequences. I have ran into debts abusing my credit cards several times. God was graceful. He saw me through the hopeless financial situations. My family helped. I learned to live within my means. I developed the discipline to clear my credit card every month, even during the time I have no job and hence no income.
I was an angry man. I had little patience with people who did not go my way. I am much more mellowed down now.
How about you? How were you before you met Christ? How did you come to know and believe in Jesus? What happened after that?
The next time you take a Grab ride, a flight, an elevator, and there is someone around you, tell your story. You may be surprised how eager your audience is to listen to what you have to tell them.
