You lay down on the pool chair facing the beach. You feel the sea breeze caressing your face. You turn your phone to silent mode. You do not expect any notifications. There are no looming deadlines. You are not expected back to the office in another one week. What you have is just pure and unadulterated peace. You have never felt so comfortable. Is that not amazing?

However, in today’s fast-paced world, true comfort like that seems like a luxury. We juggle so many balls at one time and we do not know when we can stop. Family, work, relationships, responsibilities, ministries, fellowship, social activities, and the constant pressure to keep up. We pay so much attention to ensure no balls fall to the floor. It can be very tiring and stressful. If we do not handle this carefully, what awaits us is anxiety and burnout.

What if there is another way? What if the key to finding comfort is not about external circumstances but rather, an inner and deeper connection with one that is greater than us ourselves?

Psalm 86 talks about the troubles and enemies we face but it is a powerful reminder of God’s unfailing love and his constant presence in our lives. David declares:

“For you, Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.” (Psalm 86:5)

This verse offers a beacon of hope, reminding us that no matter the difficulties we face, God’s love is a constant source of comfort and strength. We can always find rest in God. What does resting in God mean to you? How is it different from simply relaxing? We should learn to let go of things we cannot control. Surrender our anxiety and worry to God. Identify what is stopping us from letting go and seek God’s help.

Do share your thoughts! Have you ever experienced being comforted by God in his presence? Different people find comfort and rest in God in different way. How do you find comfort in God?

Let us be supportive of one another. Remember, you are not alone in your desire for peace. Together, we can explore the path to finding rest in the midst of a restless world.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Dear Father,

When burdens weigh us down and doubts cloud our minds, draw us near to your loving embrace. Remind us of Your unfailing love and the forgiveness that washes away our worries. May we find solace in your presence and the strength to face any challenge with your hand in ours. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
