Invisible woman is a member of Fantastic Four. Her ability allows her to turn invisible to the human eye. There are many invisible people in the streets.
A man sits at the bus stop, wondering when he gets his next meal. He has not eaten for two days. A single mother struggles to pay for groceries in the store. She takes out all her coins, hoping it will be enough for the purchase today. A young man walks past the store. He has not been able to land a job for 14 months after his graduation. The elderly woman has been trying to cross the road. However, since she moves slowly, she does not have the courage to walk across when the light turns green for her.
They are invisible to most people. Most people do not see them. Most people choose not to see them.
“Blessed is the one who considers the poor! In the day of trouble the Lord delivers him.” (verse 1)
God cares for the poor and needy. God cares for the afflicted. And he blesses those who show compassion to these people. We see throughout the Bible the call to consider the needs of the poor and needy. It is not just limited to material support but also emotional and spiritual encouragement.
To many of us, there is only one form of poverty, i.e., financial poverty. It is the most obvious poverty but not the only one. There are emotional poverty, relational poverty, and spiritual poverty. To “consider the poor” means to address the needs around us and to respond with the love and generosity that God has shown us. God called us to step out of our comfort zone to extend a helping hand to those who need help. Give your finances, time, gifts, talents.
Think about how you can have this compassion in your daily life. There are people in your community that need support, friendship, or just a listening ear. Even a small act of kindness can have a significant impact. God promises to protect and deliver those who help others. When we help others, when we show compassion to others, we draw close to God and become a part of his work in the world.

I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank you for your compassion and mercy. Help me to see the needs around me and to respond with your love and generosity. Give me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and to be a source of support and encouragement to the poor and needy. Let my actions reflect your heart, and may I find joy in serving others. I trust in your promise to deliver and protect me in times of trouble. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
