Greetings. We read 1 Kings 3. We see a pivotal moment in the new reign of King Solomon. In a dream, God asked Solomon what he wanted God to give him. Becoming the king did not get into Solomon’s head. He remained humble. He recognized the tremendous responsibility ahead. Instead of asking for long life, military might, great wealth, etc., he asked for a discerning heart to govern his people.
I just want to comment on Solomon’s wise judgement between the two women and the baby. Man has become more wicked today. If the same thing were to happen, both women might say the same thing in an attempt to pretend to be the mother. Of course, we can do DNA exam.
Let us get back to the main topic – wisdom. We can ask for wisdom from God. We can acquire a lot of knowledge and experience. However, if we lack wisdom, we will not have the ability to assess the situation and apply out knowledge appropriately. A man of knowledge is like a walking encyclopaedia who can spit out facts after facts. A man of wisdom is able to discern and do what is best for the situation.
How can we be wise? As mentioned, we can ask God. Be with wise people. You will learn from them. Seek counsel from godly people when in doubt. Let us be wise.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father in heaven, I thank you for the example of Solomon and his desire for wisdom. Give me a discerning heart and mind. Let me navigate my life with integrity and justice. Help me to lead a life with humility and to seek the well-being of those around me. May your wisdom guide me in all my decisions. May my life bring glory to you. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen,
