07/08/2024|1 Kings 8 – A House for God

Good day! Today, we read 1 Kings 8. The construction of both the palace and the temple is completed. It is no mean feat, a monumental engineering achievement to be sure. More than that, it is a great achievement of faith. Solomon dedicated the temple. Solomon’s prayer demonstrated his humility (#BeHumble) and reverence. He acknowledges the greatness of God and the inadequacy of the temple to contain God. Yet, he boldly askes God to dwell among his people, to hear their prayers, and to show mercy and forgiveness. Solomon has a good understanding of God’s character. He knows God desires to be intimate with his people.

“But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built!” (verse 27)

The construction and subsequent dedication of the temple is a significant moment in the history of Israel. It signified the presence of God among his people. Even when the temple is no longer around, the spiritual principles of the presence of God among his people will continue to resonate. The church today is the place where believers father to worship, to seek God’s presence, and to experience his love.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father, I thank you for your presence in my life. Help me to create an altar of worship and devotion in my home and my heart. May your spirit dwell richly in me. Give me a passion for your glory and a desire to make your name known. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
