Person sitting quietly in morning light to seek God daily through prayer.

Week of 09/08/2024 Preview

Greetings, my fellow Bible readers. If you are following the 2024 DUMC Bible Reading Plan, we continue this week with Isaiah 3, 2 Kings 24, Psalm 83, Psalm 79, and 2 Kings 25. A central theme running across the give passages is the consequences of disobedience and the hope of restoration.

Isaiah 3 speaks of a coming judgement on Judah. 2 Kings 24 and 25 record the tragic fall of Jerusalem to Babylon. From these three passages, we see that turning away from God leads to destruction, not just for individual but for an entire nation.

Psalms 83 calls for God to rise against the enemies of Israel while Psalm 79 is a lament and plea for God’s mercy and restoration.

The passages for this week challenge us to reflect on the consequences of straying from God’s path but also offer hope. God’s judgement is real. So is his ever-present mercy for those who truly repent and seek him. As we read these passages, it is my hope and prayer that we can consider how God’s justice and mercy work together, offering both a warning and an invitation for renewal.

Do take time to read and reflect. Do not rush. Allow these powerful Bible verses to deepen your understanding of God’s desire for obedience and his promises of restoration.

As usual, I pray you are as blessed reading the reading companion as I am preparing them.
