We heard pride precedes a fall. Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
As we read Isaiah 3 today, we see a stern warning to the people of Judah regarding the consequences of their pride and disobedience. We see a clear picture of the downfall that awaits a nation that turns away from God. From the top to the bottom, Judah has abandoned justice, oppressed the poor, and exalted themselves. When the people of a nation abandoned God’s ways, their foundation crumbled, leading to chaos, unrest, fear, and ultimately, judgement.
Isaiah 3 is a sobering reminder that when we turn away from God’s righteousness, we face the consequences of broken relationships, injustice, and insecurity. Yet, God desires that we return to him. His discipline is not to condemn but to bring us back to a place of humility and to trust in his ways. He wants to reconcile us with him.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, I humbly come before you. I recognize how easily pride and disobedience can take root in my heart. Help me to seek your righteousness and walk in your ways. Forgive me for the times I have strayed from your commands. Restore me, Father, as an individual and as a part of the community, so I may reflect your justice, love, and mercy. Guide me to live humbly before you and to trust in your grace. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
