What do you think happens when God repeatedly calls but we do not listen? Jer 6 warns against the ignoring God’s voice and the dire consequences that follow.
God is deeply frustrated with the people of Judah for their refusal to listen to his warnings. An impending disaster looms because of their continued disobedience and rejection of God’s ways. God gives many warnings through his prophets. The people choose their own path. They chose to ignore God’s calls for repentance.
Verse 16 shows this clearly. “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”
Judah is given a choice – to walk in the ways of God or to reject his guidance. Judah’s decision to turn away from the “good way” leads to their ultimate downfall. Jer 6 reminds us that ignoring God’s calls can lead to devastating consequences, both personally and as a community.
Are there areas in your life where God is calling you to change or repent? How often do we choose our path instead of the “good way” that God offers? How often do we think we can switch back to the “good way” later in the journey? What steps can we take to listen more attentively to God
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, help me to listen when you call. Give me the wisdom to seek your ways and walk in the path that brings life. Lead me back to your ancient paths. Bring me back to the good way. Grant me the courage to follow them. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
