I spent quite a bit of time in the hospital. I sometimes see people who need help. One auntie needed to know how to get to the clinic for her appointment. One uncle was not sure where to get the number for the queue. One patient is not sure the procedure to get her medicine. I would help whenever I could.
God is love. We are called to be imitators of Christ. We are called to reflect his love not only to those we know but also to strangers we meet in our everyday lives. Be it in the hospital, in the market, in the workplace, in the school, or at the park, we are given a lot of opportunities to extend kindness and grace.
“Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Heb 13:2)
Kindness does not have to be a grand gesture. More often than not, it is the small, thoughtful acts that make the biggest difference. A genuine smile, an offer to help someone struggling with directions, or lending a listening ear in a moment of distress, can all be powerful expression of Christ’s love. You never know what someone might be going through. Your kindness could be the encouragement they need.
When we are kind to strangers, we open the door to share our faith. The God bless you or Jesus loves you when you part ways may plant a seed of the Gospel. As we serve others, we embody the compassion of Jesus, who loves all and cares for all, regardless of their status or situation. Remember, Jesus died for all.
Of course, it is important to be safe and wise. We do not throw caution to the wind. There are always opportunities to help someone in need while maintaining caution. Look for moments where you can extend a helping hand or a kind word without putting yourself in danger.
May God open our eyes to see those around us who need kindness. May he help us to reflect his love in every encounter and seize every opportunity to serve others.
