28/10/2024|Ezra 2 – A Restored People

Ezra helps us to consider the power of being counted among God’s people. This seemingly simple list of names holds deep significance. It documents the returning exiles. They are those displaced from their homeland but now restored.

The following came up from the towns of Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Kerub, Addon and Immer, but they could not show that their families were descended from Israel: (Ezra 2:59)

It reminds us that God values individuals and their heritage. Even those who could not prove their lineage were still included in the community’s restoration process. God’s grace reaches beyond human limitations. Like those exiles who were restored to their place in God’s plan, we today are part of his redemptive plan.

What can we learn from this life of exiles? Firstly, we reflect on our identity in Christ.  He calls you by name and includes you in his family. Secondly, reflect on how God is restoring areas in your life that have been broken. Always be thankful to what God is doing in our lives. Thirdly, find ways to build up and encourage others in their journey of faith. Remind them that God sees them and values them.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father, thank you for counting me among your people. Help me to trust in your restoration and walk faithfully in my identity as your child. Lead me to encourage and restore others, as you love restored me. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
