The gardener cares for his garden tenderly. Every plant receives attention. Each one is watered, pruned, and nurtured with purpose. He knows exactly what each flower, bush, and tree need to thrive. In Ps 147, we see a similar picture of how God cares for his people and creation.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” (verses 3 and 4)
We see God’s vastness and his imtimacy. He is the creator of the universe. He is also the one who mends our hearts.
Ps 147 reminds us that God is not distant or detached. Rather, he is actively involved in our lives. He knows each star by name. He knows the depts of our hearts. When we are overwhelmed or broken, we can trust that God’s compassion extends even to our deepest wounds. He is like the gardener who lovingly tends to each aspects of our lives. He heals and restores us with care and precision.
Consider how you can trust God’s care in your own life. His care is genuine and comprehensive. He is not like the grudging nurse during the night shift who did not want to come to your aid. He is not the irresponsible teacher with limited patience. Pray about areas where you feel broken or in need of his guidance, knowing he sees and understands. And he cares.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank you for being both powerful and compassionate. Help me to trust in your loving care and guide me in surrendering my worries to you. Heal what is broken and help me grow. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
