How do we live wisely?

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.” (verse 10)

Verse 10 provides a profound answer and reminds us that wisdom begins with a reverent relationship with God.

The “fear of the Lord” is not being afraid or a feeling of dread. Instead, it is a deep reverence and trust in God’s authority and goodness. True wisdom does not come from intellectual knowledge alone. It comes from aligning our lives with God’s truth.

Let us examine where our reverence lies. Do we place human wisdom, worldly success, or cultural values over God’s principles? Ps 111:10 encourages us to make God the foundation of our decisions. When we revere him as the source of truth and wisdom, we develop a perspective that goes beyond the temporary and gain insight that leads to true fulfilment.

So, how do we live wisely? How do we grow in this wisdom? Daily prayer and Bible reading help us to understand God’s heart in a deeper way. It guides us toward choices that give honour to God. It also strengthens our character. As we live according to his Word, we gain a wisdom that blesses not just our lives but also those around us.

I invite you to say this prayer.

Father, help me to honour you as the source of all wisdom. Teach me to walk in reverence and follow your ways. Let me grow in understanding and live a life that reflect your truth. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
