We praise God when we feel like it. How often do we simply praise God for who he is? Ps 113 and 117 are two powerful calls to worship. They urge us to praise God not just for what he does, but for his unchanging character and love.
“Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord.” (Ps 113:1)
Ps 113 describes God’s majesty and compassion. He reigns high above and yet he cares for the needy and life up the humble. The greatness and gentleness of God remind us that he is both powerful and deeply intimate.
Similarly, Ps 117, the shortest chapter in the Bible, declares the following and encourages us to praise God, to acknowledge his steadfast love and faithfulness that extend to every generation. Here is Ps 117 in its entirety.
“Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”
When we apply these verses, we make worship a regular part of our day, praising God in moments of both joy and struggle. A simple habit of beginning and ending the day with thanksgiving draws us closer to God and fills us with peace.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, you are worthy of all our praise! Help me to remember your greatness and your love in every moment. May my life reflect constant gratitude for who You are. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
