Think back to a time when you experienced a moment of awe-inspiring reverence? It could be standing before the roaring Niagara Falls, attending the live performance of Verdi’s Requiem, or encountering a profound truth. These moments leave us humbled and filled with wonder.
“Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,” (verse 7)
Ps 114 invites us to experience a similar sense of awe. As we read, we encounter a clear picture of God’s power and sovereignty. The sea flees, the Jordan turns back, the mountains skip like rams! These powerful and dramatic images remind us of God’s creative power and his ability to work miracles.
How do we apply this to our lives? Firstly, acknowledge God’s sovereignty. When we recognize that God is in control of all things, we receive great peace and comfort. Two, worship in awe. Spend time to worship God, through prayer, songs, and meditation. It helps us to cultivate a deeper sense of reverence and awe. Thirdly, respond to God’s love. As we experience God’s love and grace, we are called to respond with love and obedience. Do you show God’s love when you interact with others? Are you obedient in your daily Christian walk?
Be reminded of the awesome power of our God as we read Ps 114. May we too, tremble in his presence and worship with all our hearts, souls, and minds.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank you for your incredible power and sovereignty. You are the creator of all things, and I am in awe of your majesty. Help me to worship you with reverence and to live in obedience to your will. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
