Who is Jesus in your life? Is he honoured as the King? Is he just somebody you used to know?
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a sceptre of justice will be the sceptre of your kingdom.” (verse 6)
Ps 45 offers a poetic take into the majesty, righteousness, and eternal reign of the divine King.
Ps 45 is also known as the Royal Wedding Psalm. It celebrates the king’s splendour and his marriage to a queen. It is rooted in its historical context and yet is also prophetically points to the eternal King, Jesus Christ. The throne is characterized by justice, truth, and righteousness, qualities that set his reign apart. Ps 45 foreshadows the union between Christ and his Church, his beloved bride. This narrative continues in the New Testament.
So, what can we learn from Ps 45? Firstly, celebrate Christ’s sovereignty. Reflect on his righteousness and justice, praising him for his eternal reign over all creation and your life. Next, recognize your role as his bride. Know your role in the Church, the bride of Christ. Seek to live a life that reflect his love and purity. Thirdly, proclaim his majesty. Pass it on. Share the beauty of his kingdom with the people in our lives. Draw them to experience his truth and grace. Make it a goal to help others go one step closer to Jesus.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, you are the King of kings and Lord of lords. Your throne is eternal, and your justice is perfect. Teach me to honour you with my life and to live as your beloved child. May I reflect your righteousness and proclaim your glory to the world. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
