Have you ever paused to marvel at the beauty and order of creation? Have you ever beheld the twinkle of the night sky? Have you ever closed your eyes and listened to the waves crashing the shore? Have you ever felt the wind caressing your face as you stood at the top of the hill?
“Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights above. Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts. Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.” (Verses 1 to 3.)
Ps 148 invites us to join the entire universe in praising the creator! This is a universal call to worship, summoning humanity along with all of creation to give glory to God. From the highest heavens to the depths of the earth, the psalmist paints a vivid picture of everything – angels, mountains, oceans, animals, and people – all joining together in adoration. It reminds us that we are part of a symphony of praise and an orchestra of worship, reflecting the greatness of our creator God.
As you read Ps 148 today, please take time to intentionally praise God. Step outside. Look around (but please do not look suspicious or your neighbour will call the police, and that will mar your experience.) Let creation lead you in worship. Consider how your daily life can reflect praise – through gratitude, kindness, or excellence in your work. When we join creation in praise, we align ourselves with God’s purposes for the world. Now, is that not great?
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, thank you for the beauty of creation that declares your glory. Teach me to join the heavens and the earth in praising you, not just with words but with our lives. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
