What comes to mind when you think of heaven? Streets of gold? Meeting the saints you read in the Bible? Meeting your wife who has gone before you? Angels joining you in unceasing worship?
“At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.” (verse 2)
Rev 4 gives us a glimpse God’s heavenly throne room. It reveals a place of breathtaking glory and unceasing worship. Rev 4 invites us to consider the majesty of God and join the praise of heaven.
John is caught up in a vision of heaven. He sees a throne at the centre of everything. In his vision are twenty-four elders and four living creatures, worshipping and proclaiming “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” (Verse 8.) The psalmist conveys the sovereignty of God and the unending praise he deserves.
It is clear who reigns. In a restless world like this is, it is reassuring to know that God’s throne is unshaken. Rev 4 calls us to centre our lives on the worship of the One who rules the with power and holiness.
As you read Rev 4 today, reflect on God’s majesty and spend time in worship this week, through prayer, songs, or meditation. Shift your focus from earthly concerns to the eternal King on the throne.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, you reign in power and glory. Holy, holy, holy are you Lord God Almighty! Help me to live a life of worship. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on your throne. May your majesty fill my heart with awe and peace. I pray I the name of Jesus. Amen.
