Have you ever faced a problem that cannot be solved? We seem to find such a situation in Rev 5. There is a scroll representing God’s redemption plan. It is sealed. No one is found worthy to open it. There seems to be no solution – until the Lamb of God appears.
“Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the centre of the throne, …He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne.” (Verses 6 and 7)
Rev 5 reveals Jesus as both the Lion of Judah and the Lamb who was slain. Seeing no one found worthy to open the scroll, John weeps. However, his despair turns to awe when Jesus steps forward. And heaven erupts in praise!
In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise!” (Verse 12.)
Rev 5 highlights the victory of Christ. Through his sacrifice, Jesus is worthy to enact God’s redemptive plan. His triumph over sin and death assures us that no situation is beyond is power.
Think about Jesus’ worthiness as you read Rev 5. Allow the vision of the lamb upon the throne inspire you to worship. Let it assure you of his authority over your life. Whatever challenges you face, trust that he is in control.
I invite you to say this prayer.
Father, you are the worthy lamb of God. I praise you for your sacrifice and victory. Help me to trust in your power and live a life that honours you. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
