In the beginning of the year, I started writing devotions based on the daily Bible reading based on the 2024 DUMC Bible reading plan. I decided not to clutter up the cell group’s WhatsApp group and I started to blog my daily devotions. In addition of the Bible readings from Monday to Friday, I started adding a Weekend Encourager on Saturday and a Preview on Sunday.
Today marks the last entry in this journey. Psalm 150 is an appropriate conclusion to this wonderful journey of discovery. In the beginning, I could not help but look at the number of views and likes. After all, who does not crave attention and acknowledgement. Gradually, I learned that I was being prepared to face the more stormy and darker nights in my life.
Kathleen’s health condition required her to be hospitalized. Four times. During the last time, the medicine and equipment were no longer effective. She went to heaven to be with Jesus on 15 Nov 2024 at 1232AM. What followed was a whirlwind of events. Once the wake was done, the other procedures followed, things packed (thanks to Jesse and Andrea) and donated / sent for recycled / disposed, I am left alone with Ben in the empty house.
It is then I realized, the daily Bible reading and blogging has been preparing me every step of the way to cling to God and to be anchored to him. I am on a small boat, tossed incessantly by the towering waves in the dark and stormy night. I was also walking through the darkest valley. Through it all, God was with me. God was holding my hand. God was telling me, it is ok, he is here. He placed Ben with me 10 years ago. God and Ben (my dog) kept me sane.
Was it a lot of work to read the Bible and write a devotion every day? Maybe. Was it rewarding? You bet. I am going to spend time every day reading the Bible. 2025 is another year of seeking God’s face.
