Avoiding Distractions

With today’s technology, distractions come from every direction. Social media, endless notifications, and the pursuit of worldly success. Some of these are harmless in moderation, however, they can easily pull us away from what truly matters – our relationship with God and his purpose for our lives.

When we read Lk 10:38-42, we see Jesus commended Mary for choosing to sit at his feet and listen attentively while Martha was distracted by preparation. We are reminded to prioritize our time with God.

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one,” (Lk 10:41, 42a)

To avoid distractions, we must be intentional, we can start by creating space and time for God every day – through prayer, studying the Bible, to worship. Set boundaries to eliminate unnecessary distractions. Limit screen time. Say no to commitments that do not align with God’s purpose for you.

Heb 12:1 encourages us to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.” Distractions may seem trivial, but over time, they can divert us from fulfilling God’s plan. Stay focused on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith. Live with purpose. Choose what truly matters for eternity.
