Due to health reasons, I have cut sugar cold turkey. I am also reducing salt. As such, I try not to take so much outside food. I cook.
However, I did not learn how to cook from my late grandmother and late father – both are accomplished masters in the kitchen. My mom seldom cooks anymore. Compounded with the lack of salt and soy sauce, I do not like my cooking. On many occasions, I opted to take cereals with milk rather than to cook.
I need to tame my tongue. For health reasons, I no longer have the luxury to have sweet and salty stuff. It is no easy task. I have been enjoying tasty food all my life. I find cutting sugar easier than cutting salt.
James 3:1-12 discussed the tongue, its power to either give life or to take life, and the need to tame it. Indeed, we need to watch our tongue. We need to be prudent in what we say. We also need to be careful about how we say it. A different tone or a sightly higher volume can make all the difference. We want to encourage. We want to bring hope. We want to build up and be constructive. Be careful not to destroy or discourage.
I am learning how to do that. I want to find out as much as possible before I offer any opinions. If I cannot have enough information, I prefer not to say anything. I do not want to be more of a hinder than help.
And now I ALSO have to train my tongue not to seek sensational pleasure when I eat.
