A smartphone is such a normal item that we do not give it a second thought. Some carry more than one. We stay connected to others. We get information we need. We find endless hours of entertainment on it. It is a watch, a calculator, and even a torchlight.
What would it be like if Jesus had a smartphone? Imaging Jesus calling his disciples and sending text messages to them. His parables and lessons would be live-streamed. The people can view the Sermon on the Mount on YouTube. How many followers would he have on TikTok or Instagram or X?
Now, let us think about this. If Jesus followed you on Facebook or X or TikTok, what would he see? Would your social media reflect his love? Do they give him glory? Do they bring encouragements or division?
In this digital age, our phones connect us to the world – but do they connect us to God? The Bible reminds us to focus on things that are true, lovely, admirable, pure and praiseworthy. Do we use our small screens to uplift or to tear down? Do we share hope and joy instead of despair and sorrow?
Jesus did not have a smartphone. Yet, he gave us a direct line to hm – prayer. It works 24 x 7, rain or shine, no signal disruption, and he always take your call and read your messages! When you get up in the morning, what is the first thing you do? Do you check your messages, or do you check in with him? Instead of scrolling one video after another, what if we used technology to give him glory?
If Jesus had a smartphone, we can be sure his messages would aways be filled with truth and love. What about yours?
