You received a memo. Today is your last day on earth. How would you live your last day? Would you spend it praying and reading the Bible? Would you patch up your differences with that person? Would you finally step up and answer God’s call. After all, it is only one day, isn’t it?
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14)
Our time is short. It may not be one day. It could be seven weeks. It could be 30 years. It could be 18 months. In short, it is short. It is limited. Tick tock. Yet, we have the audacity to live as if we have endless tomorrow. We will wake up tomorrow. Isn’t that a given? We put off sharing the Gospel. Showing kindness, seeking God wholeheartedly, taking up the call (to ministry, not the phone call.) What if today is the last day?
This is not to instil fear but to awaken urgency. Jesus calls us to live with eternity in mind (to seek him and his kingdom first). He also told us to store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. What we do today echoes in eternity.
What would do differently if you know time was running out? Think for a moment. Then, whatever it is – do it now. Do not wait. Love deeply, forgive freely, serve boldly. Live today as if it truly matters, because in God’s eyes, it does.
