Innocence is not weakness; it is strength clothed in simplicity.
When Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me” (Matt. 19:14), he pointed us to a posture of the heart – open, trusting, uncluttered by pride or pretence. Innocence sees clearly, because it is not clouded by hidden agendas.
The world often mistakes cunning for wisdom. It celebrates manipulation, rewards double-speak and applauds selfish ambition. Yet Scripture calls us to a different path:
“to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.” (Rom. 16:19)
To be innocent is not to be naïve. It is to live with motives that are clean. Words that are true. Actions that are untainted by deceit.
Innocence brings freedom. You do not have to remember lies you never told. You do not have to cover tracks you never made. You do not have to carry guilt for wounds you never caused.
It is not something to be traded – not for success, not for applause, not for the illusion of power. For once exchanged, innocence does not return the same way.
Guard it. Cherish it. Walk in it.
Because in God’s kingdom, it is the childlike heart – unburdened, trusting, honest – that finds rest in his embrace.
