Of all the treasures God has given us, time is one we cannot earn back. Once a moment passes, it is gone forever.
Paul exhorts us, “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” (Eph 5:15-16)
Is it not foolish to treat time as something we have an endless supply of? We scroll (doom scroll) endlessly. We delay what matters. We push aside what is eternal for what we see as urgent. And before we know it, years passed, decades passed.
We do not control time. God gives us time and entrusts it for a purpose. To waste time is to treat lightly what he placed in our hands. To misuse time is to rob ourselves and others of the good God intended.
However, when we make good use of time, when we redeem time, we discover joy in the ordinary – a word spoken to encourage, a prayer lifted in faith, a moment given to listen, to serve, to love.
Do not make a mess with time by squandering it. “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Ps 90:12)
Every breath is borrowed. Every moment is sacred.
